Cob Wargaming
Age of Sigmar Champions League
Welcome to the Cob Wargaming Age of Sigmar Champions League!
When we first started this website we held a Champions League of LOTR tournament and we loved it so much we thought it was time we held one for our Age of Sigmar Miniatures. As we are just starting out and getting to know the Age of Sigmar rules we thought this tournament would provide us with some much needed experience and a chance to know how our characters are going to play in the new rules. We will find out who are the tough guys and who are the ones to avoid. We have Heroes spanning a respectable amount of Factions, we've got Chaos, Beastmen, Stormcast, High Elves and Ogres to name just a few!
How it works
This tournament has 32 participants, each of which is a character, hero or known tough guy from our collection of Warhammer Fantasy or Age of Sigmar miniatures. This is a knock-out style tournament consisting of 1-on-1 duels to the death! There will be 5 rounds of duels and the winner of each duel will advance to the next round until we have reduced them down to a final winner. They have all been given a number between 1 and 32 and this has been used in a random number generator to decide who will face who in each duel. The losers of each duel are knocked out of the tournament with the exception of the first round where the losers will be entered into a secondary plate competition (a second chance tournament using the same rules) that will be held at a later date. The winners of each round go into the draw for the next round which will also be randomly determined.
The duels will take place in an arena that is 30" long by 12" wide. There are gateways at each end which the warriors walk through as they face their fate. A few ruined pieces of scenery are scattered around the arena purely for decorative purposes we are not using any special rules for scenery, it will have no effect on the fight. The miniature with the least wounds gets to go first in the first turn.

Predictions
Before we made the draw for the first round we had a browse through the rules and stats for each model and made some predictions on who would be in the final round and who would come out on top. We were split, one side thought that the Dragon Ogre Shaggoth would defeat the Gaunt Summoner in the final and the other side thought that the Ogroid Thaumaturge would defeat Be'lakor in the final. Of course it would all depend entirely on the draw and order of battle for each round. So without further ado, lets get down to business!
Round One
1- Great Eagle vs Doomseeker
The Great Eagle kicked off the tournament in style, getting the first charge and a handy extra two attacks bringing it's total to 6. The Doomseeker got lucky with his save and only lost a single wound. Unfortunately for the Eagle this gave the Doomseeker a To Hit bonus and this did enough damage to force the Eagle to retreat right to the back corner and nurse its wounds. The Doomseeker pressed home his advantage throwing an axe as he advanced. It missed but now he was within range to charge, it was successful but he failed to score any hits! The Eagle struck back scoring another wound on the Duardin. In the next turn the Doomseeker used his Oathbound ability to get the kill and win the first round.
5- Ogre Crusher vs Slaughterpriest
This was the first duel where both sides just wanted to hack chunks off each other! The Slaughterpriest tried Bloodboil but it was out of range so he just ran, getting 12". This allowed the Ogre to get the charge in the first round of combat but he only did a single wound which was saved! In return the Slaughterpriest missed with everything! Next the Slaughterpriest used Bloodfuelled Prayers but it hilariously backfired which cost him 3 wounds. In the combat phase the priest caused a wound. In the next turn the Ogre went first and caused a wound that did 2 damage, reducing the priest to his last remaining wound. In retaliation Khorne's man got a second wound off the Crusher. The Slaughterpriest could have attempted a risky Bloodfuelled Prayers power to win the match but after last time it wasn't worth the risk but this turned out to be an error as the Ogre easily picked off his man in the next combat phase and got a surprise win!
2- Ogroid Thaumaturge vs Knight Questor
The Knight Questor fancied his chances against the Ogroid, a good save and some powerful attacks meaning he would be a force to reckon with in close combat. He got priority and chose to run getting to move a good 11" forward. This put him straight into range of the Ogroid's spell Fireblast. It was barely cast but caused D6 mortal wounds and you guessed it, the Ogroid rolled a 5 and killed the Knight Questor with a single spell.
3- Sigvald the Magnificent vs Great Bray Shaman
We decided that the Shaman would not be able to use the Savage Dominion spell because it is not in the spirit of the tournament (It lets you summon a monster, any monster, to the battlefield). With this in mind the Shaman cast Arcane Bolt on Sigvald but his mirrored shield reflected it back so the Mortal wound went onto the Beastman! Sigvald then charged into combat and used his sword (Silverslash, coolest name ever!) to do an impressive 3 wounds. The Shaman was down to a single wound and only had a single attack, which missed! In the next turn Sigvald easily cut the beast to ribbons.
4- Herald of Tzeentch vs Grimgore Ironhide
Grimgore began his run up the board but he never scored highly, (he's not an Orc that does speed!) The Herald used his Arcane Tome which lets him roll an extra dice to cast spells, however in typical wargaming fashion he then failed to cast Magical Flames! This gave Grimgore another turn to run which again was a low roll. The Herald backed himself into a corner and had another two turns to cast Magical Flames, he only succeeded once and it did not do much damage. When Grimgore finally got into combat his powerful axe Gitsnik destroyed the Herald in a single phase.
6- Gryph-Hound Alpha vs High Elf Mage
An Alpha Gryph-Hound gets an additional attack but this was still a duel of 2 of the weakest participants in combat. The Gryph-Hound moved 15" but was hit by an Arcane Bolt which took off 1 wound. In the next turn Arcane Bolt failed and the Gryph-Hound got into battle, caused 2 wounds and escaped before it could be hit back. In the third turn Arcane Bolt was cast successfully but once again only did a single wound, the Gryph-Hound darted back into combat causing a third wound to the Mage but this time it only fled 2 " leaving it within range of the staff, but the staff missed! Again the Hound got back into combat this time causing 2 wounds which would have been enough to kill the Elf but one was luckily saved. The High Elf Mage once again cast Arcane Bolt and finally got the kill!
7- Ogre Leadbelcher vs Beast Lord
The Beast Lord has the powerful ability to re-roll wounds against heroes but the Leadbelcher is one of the few models in the tournament who doesn't have the HERO keyword. Better luck next time Beasty! In the first turn they both ran at each other and both rolled a 6! They were within touching distance and priority would be crucial. The Beast Lord won the crucial roll to see who would go first which meant he could get the charge in and not get shot 6 times off the cannon! In combat the Man-ripper Axe caused 2 wounds on the Ogre and the Ogre hit with a 2 damage wound in retaliation. In the Leadbelchers turn he missed from close range with the cannon and the Beast Lord saved the close combat wounds, but it was a good turn for armour saves as the Ogre also saved his final wound. Once again priority would be crucial and the Ogre got it but again he missed with his mighty cannon! The Beast Lord chopped the Orge down in his next combat phase.
8- Darkoath Chieftain vs Black Ark Fleetmaster
Both sides headed straight for each other and in the second turn the Chieftain got a 10" charge but the combat phases really did not go well for him. The Fleetmaster got to fight 2 turns in a row and his Black Ark Cutlass quickly got the Chieftain down to a single remaining wound. The Darkoath Chieftain struck back knocking 2 wounds off the Fleetmaster. Things did not look well for him as he took the next priority and then missed with all his attacks but a little fortune did come his way when the Fleetmaster did the same! The Chieftain won priority again and got the Dark Elf also down to a single wound but it wasn't enough as the Fleetmaster struck back and the Murderhook lived up to its name.
10- Skaven Deathrunner vs Lord Castellant
It would be interesting to see if the Skaven's illusion power could make much difference. After a couple of turns of posturing the Warding Lantern caused a wound to one of the Deathrunner's and the Lord Castellant failed the charge! The Skaven Deathrunner revealed itself by using throwing stars but the wound it caused was saved by the thick armour of the Castellant. The Skaven charged in and caused 2 wounds with his Blood blade. The Castellant fought back bravely and clocked up an impressive 4 wounds (he's much better than his Silver Tower counterpart). The Lord Castellant got priority in the next turn and his Warding Lantern removed the last wound off the Deathrunner.
12- Cogsmith vs High Elf Prince
A classic Dwarf/Elf grudge match, straight from the War of the Beard! Predictably as you may have seen in our Silver Tower posts the first shots from the Cogsmith missed but he shot again and hit although the Elven armour held up. The Cogsmith got the charge and hit with most of his attacks but he could not get past the Enchanted Shield and he lost a wound from the Prince in return. In the Next turn the High Elf Prince dominated the Duardin by utilising his re-rolls and the Star Blade killed the Cogsmith outright. We were all surprised by how good the Prince had turned out to be, he has the potential to go far in the tournament.
13- Ruglud vs Mistweaver Saih
Another duel between a Warhammer legend and an Age of Sigmar upstart. They both ran forward to get in range of each other. Ruglud fired his Crossbow twice but the Mystic Shield of the Mistweaver prevented any wounds from occurring. Ruglud failed the charge and was left floundering as he was hit by an Arcane Bolt which took 2 wounds off him. The Mistweaver got priority in the next turn and used another Arcane Bolt to kill the Orc.
14- Tenebral Shard vs Be'Lakor
The Shard was a massive underdog but he was undeterred as he attempted his Shadowstrike power but it did not materialise. Be'lakor just went directly towards the Shard having not been in range for any spells. The Tenebral Shard got priority again and this time he passed his roll to Shadowstrike and materialised right behind Be'lakor whom he charged but could only cause a single wound, this power seemed like it would be useful against weaker opponents. Be'lakor struck back and reduced the Shard to a single wound and the proceeded to kill him as he struck first in the next turn.
16- Dragon Ogre Shaggoth vs Chaos Sorceror Lord
Finally the big beast came out to play and he had an easy draw as the Sorcerer is rubbish in combat! The Dragon Ogre chose to run in the first turn adding 4" to his already impressive 12" move. The Beast got priority in the second turn and charged the Sorcerer expecting to cleave him in half with his enormous axe but it only caused 3 wounds! Outrageous! The Chaos Sorcerer used Arcane Bolt in the next turn which did 2 wounds but it wasn't enough to reduce any stats on the Dragon Ogre, again the Sorcerer missed his close combat attacks and the Shaggoth finished him off with a swipe of its tail.
Well folks that's Round One finished. The losers will be packed off to compete in the Plate Competition that will be held sometime in the future, but the winners get to advance to the draw for Round Two and are a big step towards being crowned the champion. There were a couple of upsets but nothing too shocking, but what will round 2 have in store? find out below!
9- Gaunt Summoner with familiars vs Korhil the Hunter
We all expected big things from these two with the powerful magic of the Summoner going up against an old favourite model of ours. The Gaunt Summoner edged forward so his spells were in range and Korhil could only run forward. This worked for the summoner and he blasted 4 mortal wounds off Korhil. Korhil once again legged it and managed to get into close quarters. The Familiars did all their usual annoying tricks and with all the modifications Korhil could not even manage a single hit upon the Gaunt Summoner. The Gaunt Summoner struck back with a little help from the familiars and Korhils reduced save could not prevent him from losing his last wound.
11- Excelsior Warpriest vs High Elf Loremaster
We let the Warpriest set up his Gryph-Hound buddy because we felt it was a key part of his character. To start with the Loremaster used Arcane Bolt on the Gryph-Hound but it only took a single wound. Both the Warpriest and the Gryph-Hound made the charge but it was only the hound that could cause a wound before darting away which left the Warpriest to receive a wound from the Elf. In the following turn the Warpriest cast Light of Sigmar which caused a mortal wound although he couldn't follow this up in combat, however the Loremaster could and the Priest lost another wound himself. In the Loremasters turn he cast Hand of Glory which gave him a juicy bonus and he chipped yet another single wound off the Warpriest and his save prevented him taking one in return. Next turn and the Loremaster got priority, he attempted to cast Hand of Glory again but this time it was unbound and nothing was achieved in combat. The Warpriest used Light of Sigmar on himself this time and healed 3 wounds but was also rubbish in combat and did no damage. This pattern repeated itself for another 5 turns with the Loremaster casting Arcane Bolt and the Gryph-Hound darting in and out off combat. Eventually after healing a total of 7 wounds the Warpriest had ground down the Loremaster and picked up the win.
15- Chaos Khorne Lord on Deamonic Mount vs Khorne Exalted Hero
Blood for the Blood God! We couldn't believe these two had been drawn against each other but they seemed perfectly happy with the idea. The Exalted Hero went first and ran a mighty 6" (we had a lot of high Run rolls in this round!) straight towards his rival. The mounted Lord went next and attempted a lengthy charge but could not find the distance. Fortunately he got priority in the next turn and this time made the charge and trampled over the Exalted Hero by causing an impressive 6 wounds.

Round Two
1- Gaunt Summoner with familiars vs Doomseeker
The Doomseeker was in the first duel of the round again but this time it looked like he had bitten off more than he could chew, although if he could get into combat he had a (slim) chance. The Gaunt Summoner predictably only moved the minimum to be in range of his missile attack, Change Staff, it caused a wound on the Doomseeker but it was saved. The Doomseeker chose to run but his short legs did not take him very far! In the second turn the Gaunt Summoner's magic caused 3 mortal wounds on the Doomseeker who once again could only run. In the third turn the Gaunt Summoner got priority again and caused another mortal wound before bravely retreating. The Doomseeker moved forward and decided to attempt a 9" charge which he would need to make if he was going to stand a chance. He rolled a mighty 11"! He scored 2 wounds on the Summoner and his special rule allowed him to attack again, this time reducing the Gaunt Summoner to a single wound and getting rid of the Tweek (who gives the Summoner +1 to hit with his sword), the Gaunt Summoner tried to fight back but could not land a single hit! Both were now down to a single wound and priority would be crucial, they both rolled a 1! This allowed the Doomseeker to go first and he started with his Fyresteel Throwing Axe which killed Slop, his War-Iron killed the other two familiars and his Doomseeker Axe took the final wound off the Gaunt Summoner. A huge and unexpected result!
2- Ogre Crusher vs Dragon Ogre Shaggoth
Clobberin' time! In the first turn they both ran towards each other shouting abuse, this left them pretty close together and the next priority roll could give the Crusher a useful charge bonus in combat. It was not to be as the Shaggoth took priority and charged in, looking to make this a quick fight. Strangely though, the bigger beast missed with every single one of his attacks and the Crusher caused 2 wounds as punishment. Could another upset be on the cards? No! The Ogre Crusher got priority this time and failed to do any damage and with a swing of his enormous Axe the Dragon Ogre Shaggoth cut the Ogre Crusher in half, ending the duel only slightly later than planned.
3- Sigvald the Magnificent vs Excelsior Warpriest
Both sides closed the gap with the Warpriest being out of range with an early attempt at Light of Sigmar, the Gryph-Hound moving in front of the Priest to protect him but this was found to be pointless because of the Pile-in rule. Sigvald got off to a good start when he directed all his attacks at the Priest, he caused 4 wounds of which only 1 was saved, the Warpriest and the Gryph-Hound attacked back but neither of them did any hurt. The Warpriest got the priority he needed and chose to heal with his Light of Sigmar, he healed all 3 of his suffered wounds but still achieved nothing in combat. Sigvald this time decided to split his attacks in the hope of taking out the annoying Hound, this didn't work out very well and he only caused a single wound on the Priest. Sigvald got priority and decided to do the same again, this time he caused a wound on the Hound but the Warpriest made all of his required saves. The Hound got it's vengeance and caused a wound on Sigvald despite a 3+ re-rollable save. This duel became a bit repetitive as the traded blows with the Warpriest either healing or attacking with Light of Sigmar. A few turns later and with the Sigmars assistance both sides were down to a single wound, an important priority roll saw Sigvald the Magnificent cause a flurry of wounds and edge the contest by taking out both the Warpriest and the Gryph-Hound. Phew! Note: We were all glad that the Warpriest was knocked out, a frustrating character to both fight against and to control!
4- Chaos Khorne Lord on Deamonic Mount vs Grimgore Ironhide
Two big bruisers armed with high damage weapons but who would triumph? Chaos Khorne Lord went first but was very cautious about how far he moved forward as getting the charge would be crucial. Grimgore was not so cautious and ran forward as fast as he could, trusting in Gork and Mork to protect him. It worked out well for him as he got to go first and leapt into combat. The Orc's Almighty 'Eadbutt failed to would and so he swung Gitsnik, all 4 attacks hit, all 4 attacks caused wounds and none of them were saved. The Khorne Lord had been destroyed! Purely out of interest we then acted out a turn as if the Khorne Lord had won the priority roll to see what he would achieve. He came up with an impressive 5 wounds but this would still not have been enough to defeat Grimgore.
5- Mistweaver Saih vs High Elf Prince
An all elven fight with very different styles of play. The Prince opted to Run and the Mistweaver used Illusory Assault but could not beat the bravery of the Prince. The next turn was a repeat but this time the Mistweaver roll 16, double the bravery of the Prince and caused D6 mortal wounds but she only rolled a 1! In the third turn the Mistweaver failed to cast Arcane Bolt and then fled to the corner, The Prince was getting frustrated and not getting very good Run rolls. Again the Mistweaver cast Arcane Bolt and caused a second wound on the Prince, she then opted to run and got the full 14" moving swiftly to the opposite side but the Prince was still getting closer. Finally in the 5th turn the Prince stole the priority and managed to make a charge, he did a pretty decent 3 wounds and suffered none in return thanks to his re-roll on his save. The Mistweaver then cast Arcane Bolt again and scored another single wound, she moved out of the combat and managed to win the priority roll. Yet another Arcane Bolt launched into the Prince this time causing 2 wounds and finishing him off.
6- Black Ark Fleetmaster vs Be'Lakor
The Fleetmaster bravely Ran straight forward. In Be'lakor's first turn he cast Arcane Bolt and scored a wound he followed this up by moving his full 12" into combat. Be'lakor did not roll very well but the fact he causes 2 damage meant that the Fleetmaster never stood much of a chance!
8- Ogroid Thaumaturge vs Lord Castellant
The Lord Castellant got the first turn and ran 10" forwards, straight into the path of Fireblast. The Ogroid grinned as he rolled 6 mortal wounds on the Lord Castellant and burnt him to a crisp in a display that was almost identical to Round One! There had been no luck in this tournament for the Stormcast but they had learned a valuable lesson, know your enemy!
7- High Elf Mage vs Beast Lord
It was Magic vs Might once again in Round 2. The first two turns were nearly identical, the Beast Lord running and the Mage casting Mystic Shield. In the third turn the Beast Lords stamina would be tested as he risked a long range charge and despite running nearly the full length of the board he made it! His attacks were furious and he scored 5 wounds on the Elven Mage but her Mystic Shield saved 2 of them. She then cast a powerful Arcane Bolt that did 3 wounds and of course she fled and got an extra 6" away from the beast. The next priority went to the Mage who this time failed to cast Arcane Bolt but did run yet another 6", this left the Beast Lord to run all the way back to his original side of the board. The Beast Lord fortunately got priority and then made an impressive 10" charge which let him ensnare the Mage as he ripped her apart. That was some impressive cardio!

2. Dragon Ogre Shaggoth
3. Sigvald the Magnificent
4. Grimgore Ironhide
5. Mistweaver Saih
6. Be'lakor

The Losers of Round Two

1. Gaunt Summoner with familiars
2. Ogre Crusher
3. Excelsior Warpriest
4. Chaos Khorne Lord on Deamonic Mount
5. High Elf Prince
6. Black Ark Fleetmaster
7. High Elf Mage
8. Lord Castellant

These 8 losers are in the unfortunate position of not being allowed to enter the Plate competition. They all won their first round matches but a second victory was a step to far.
Round Three: Quarter-finals
1- Ogroid Thaumaturge vs Mistweaver Saih
This would be interesting to see both of these magic wielders forced into combat. The Mistweaver cautiously advanced, being very careful to stay out of range of Fireblast. The Ogroid was now forced to move forwards (his first move of the tournament!). The second turns priority went to the Ogroid who failed to cast his beloved Fireblast spell, so he advance further up and attempted a charge but he could not make the hefty distance. The Mistweaver cast Arcane Bolt which the Ogroid could not Unbind, this caused an impressive 3 mortal wounds. The Mistweaver then did a surprise charge trusting in the power of Glimmermist to protect her. Her staff caused another 2 wounds but her blade attacks missed. The Ogroid was now Enraged, the Glimmermist ability (1+ save on certain attacks) got used on the Ogroids powerful Staff attacks and it worked! Things got better when the Horns missed but the Hooves did cause 2 wounds. The heavily wounded Ogroid went next and healed a wound in it's hero phase before casting Arcane Bolt, the Mistweaver could do nothing to stop it and suffered 3 mortal wounds which killed her. It was good to see the Ogroid finally break a sweat!
2- Beast Lord vs Dragon Ogre Shaggoth
The battle of the Beastmen! The Beast Lord bravely and foolishly chose to run directly at the Shaggoth. Unfortunately this allowed the Dragon Ogre to get the charge but fortunately it was only the Leviathon Axe that caused a wound (but this was Damage 3). The Beast Lord fought back, he also scored 3 wounds which was an impressive start! However in the second turn he was soundly beaten by the Dragon Ogre who turned up the heat and firmly dispatched the Beast Lord.
3- Sigvald the Magnificent vs Be'lakor
Could Sigvald and his mirrored shield be the undoing of The Dark Master? We love an underdog! In the first turn both sides cautiously advanced forwards. Be'lakor began the second turn but decided against using the obvious Arcane Bolt because of Sigvald's mirrored shield. Instead he used Mystic Shield and Enfeeble (-1 to wound). Be'lakor then moved up and prepared to charge, but he rolled snake eyes! This left Sigvald to make the charge but he failed to wound thanks to Enfeeble. In response Be'lakor also rolled badly only getting 1 wound but this was saved. In the third turn Sigvald got priority and rolled badly again (seven 1's in twelve dice!) but he did score 2 wounds but 1 was saved. Be'lakor struck back getting 2 wounds of his own but his -2 rend prevented any saves being made by Sigvalds rock hard armour. Be'lakor got priority in the fourth turn and capitalised on his gains, knocking Sigvald out of tournament.
4- Grimgore Ironhide vs Doomseeker
Both of these warriors have turned out to be surprisingly good and a spot in the semi finals awaits the victor. Both of them ran furiously at each other, each one seeking their doom! The next priority would be hugely important, it went to Grimgore who made the charge. He struck first with his 'Eadbutt which caused a wound and then the fearsome Gitsnik obliterated the Doomseeker. Once again Gimgore won by getting the charge and being a badass! We rolled some extra dice to see what would have been if the Doomseeker had got the charge but he did not have enough to defeat the Orc boss in less than 2 rounds. This put Grimgore into the Semi Finals where for once he would be the smallest competitor!
The winners of Round 3: The Quarter-finals

1. Ogroid Thaumaturge

2. Dragon Ogre Shaggoth

3. Be'lakor

4. Grimgore Ironhide

The Semi-finals have been decided! Our four most powerful miniatures in our Age of Sigmar collection. Grimgore is the surprise inclusion here but he has certainly proved himself so far. The big question is, who will make the grand final?
The losers of Round 3: The Quarter-finals

1. Mistweaver Saih

2. Beastlord

3. Sigvald the Magnificent

4. Doomseeker

It's the end of the road for these four. But to get this far they had to prove themselves to be tough as old boots. We will be particularly sad to see the Doomseeker leave because he provided us with many laughs. It would also have been good to see Sigvald take on the Ogroid Thaumaturge, but that's the luck of the draw!
Round Four: Semi-Final
1- Grimgor Ironhide vs Dragon Ogre Shaggoth
Both of these epic warriors had been two of the best close combat fighters in this tournament and now only one could remain. They both moved steadily forwards knowing that getting the charge could be key. It was the Shaggoth that got it making an impressive 11" charge. And he then set about kicking ass! Some decent dice rolling saw Grimgor reduced to 2 remaining wounds. But the fearsome Orc struck back and took 4 wounds off the mighty Dragon Ogre, the most damage it had suffered so far in the tournament and crucially reducing the amount of attacks it could make with its Leviathon Axe. Next both warriors rolled for priority and Grimgor got to strike first. His attacks with Gitsnik (Damage 2 Rend -2) were enough and the Shaggoth failed to save any of the wounds, granting Grimgor Ironhide passage through to the grand final.
2- Be'lakor vs Ogroid Thaumaturge
A real Wizard duel although both of them are accomplished close quarters fighters. The Ogroid went first and failed to cast Mystic Shield so he just lumbered 6" towards the centre of the arena. Be'lakor then cast Mystic Shield successfully (just to show off!) and edged forwards. The Ogroid went first again but this time Be'lakor activated the Dark Master ability (the Ogroid would need to roll 4+ before he could make any action this turn) This stopped the Ogroid from casting Fireblast which was a huge bonus for Be'lakor. The Ogroid passed his 4+ test to move and went the full 6" forwards, he then passed his test to charge but he only rolled 8" instead of the 9" that he needed. The Ogroid was now left in no-man's-land. Be'lakor was next and he started with Arcane Bolt which took 2 wounds off the Ogroid and then he cast Mystic Shield. Be'lakor then moved up within an easy charge distance and used his mighty Blade of Shadows. With 6 attacks, both hitting and wounding on a 3+ and having -2 rend and 2 Damage, the Ogroid didn't have a save and didn't stand a chance. Be'lakor was now our other finalist.
The winners of Round 4: The Semi-final

1. Be'lakor

2. Grimgor Ironhide

These two will meet in the Grand Final to decide who will be crowned the Cob Wargaming Age of Sigmar Champions League Winner! It's a bit of a mouthful but it's a title every miniature dreams of!
The losers of Round 4: The Semi-finals

1. Dragon Ogre Shaggoth

2.Ogroid Thaumaturge

These two were brilliant but were found lacking at the key times. They will be given a chance to redeem themselves as they fight it out for a bronze medal in our third place playoff!
Round Five: Finals
Third Place Game
Ogroid Thaumaturge vs Dragon Ogre Shaggoth
Both of these fearsome creatures had a point to prove and pride to restore. The Ogroid Thaumaturge went first and once again failed to cast Mystic Shield before opting not to move even an inch forwards. The Shaggoth went next and carefully moved forwards till he was just out of range (18") of the Ogroids powerful spells. The Shaggoth got the next priority and showed off his speed, moving forwards 12" and making an easy 6" charge. His attacks were furious but not quite enough and the Ogroid was reduced to a single wound. The Ogroid Thaumaturge struck back and knocked a distinctly average 3 wounds off the Shaggoth. It was the Ogroids turn next which he started by successfully healing a wound but he was now Enraged which impeded his ability to use spells, and he failed to cast a crucial Fireblast. The Ogroid's attacks were really poor and he took 1 wound from the Shaggoth who was now down to 6, naturally the Shaggoth struck back and despite having reduced attacks it still cut the Ogroid Thaumaturge down.
A Bronze medal for the Dragon Ogre Shaggoth.
Grand Final
Be'lakor vs Grimgor Ironhide
Nobody expected Grimgor to make it to the final and he certainly felt like an underdog but could he prevail? Or would the despicable Be'lakor claim what was surely his!
Grimgor started us off by storming fowards his full movement allowance and Be'lakor followed by casting Mystic Shield and edging forwards himself. Grimgor got to go first again and moved up fully but he failed the long range charge. Be'lakor again cast Mystic Shield but he failed with Arcane Bolt, then in a surprise move he retreated backwards towards his own doorway. Was he scared?
Grimgor got priority for the third time in a row but Be'lakor activated the Darkmaster rule and the Orc failed his 4+ roll so could not move this turn. The Deamon then cast Mystic Shield and Arcane Bolt which took a wound off the Orc. This time Be'lakor came in for the charge, hoping to utilise the Dark Master rule to it's full effect. Unfortunately for the Chaos Lord the dice gods were not kind and he rolled badly, only taking 2 wounds off the Orc who was now down to 4. Grimgor then passed his 4+ test to attack back and caused several wounds. Be'lakor however ignores Rend (Shadowform ability) and had a 3+ save thanks to Mystic Shield, which he passed every save roll made.
Turn 4 and priority number 4 for Grimgor Ironhide. He swung madly and all 4 of his axe attacks hit but none of them caused a wound (he only needed 3+!), his 'eadbutt attack also missed. Be'lakor swiped back, but he had similar luck and only 1 wound went through, but it did cause 2 Damage. Now it was Be'lakor's turn and he cast the very useful Mystic Shield, but for his second spell this time he changed and cast Enfeeble Foe (your opponent suffers -1 to wound). Be'lakor once again swung his Blade of Shadows but he rolled badly although again 1 wound went through but this time 2 damage was all that was needed and the mighty Grimgor Ironhide fell in defeat.
Be'lakor had won the Gold Medal!
The winners take their positions on the podium and await the national anthems
The three winners will take their hard earned place in our Hall of Fame. They will be also joined by the character that we felt put in the best performance. Check out our Hall of Fame to see who made it.
Be'lakor is an all rounder, a fantastic combination of magic spells, special abilities and powerful close combat attacks means he is a force to be reckoned with. This tournament showed us that Age of Sigmar is a great combination of simple game mechanics but will take a long time to master. A clever use of magic spells could help you win battles but cannot be relied upon to guarantee all round success and as such a player should cover all bases. Some of the match-ups showed us that getting priority at key times is crucial but can be overcome with a bit of careful planning and caution. Finally one of the key points that we learned was Know Your Enemy! As the Knight Questor and Lord Castellant found out, knowing the ranges of movement, spells and other abilities of your enemies can be vital if seeking success, otherwise your demise will be assured.
