Chaos Cultist Painting Guide
In this guide I am going to show you step by step how i painted my Chaos Cultists to look like they had been sprung from prison to fight for my Alpha Legion force. I also wanted them to double up as Bandits and Psycho for my Borderlands games.
1. Undercoat the model with Abbaddon black
2. Paint the trousers, the vest and the helmet in Ceramite white, this may take 2 coats of paint to get a decent cover.
3. Paint the trousers in Troll Slayer Orange, this took me two thin layers to get a good coating. i find that the paint is easier to use and get neat when done in thin layers and also that one thick layers tends to obscure the details.
4. Paint the Neck Cloth, bags, loin cloth and boot covers in Tallarn Sand
5. Paint the arms and hands with Cadian Flesh Tone. also take the opportunity to redo any mistakes and generally neaten up the model.
6. Wash the model with a generous dose of Agrax Earthshade. This wash gives a natural shading to the model which helps to bring out the detail it also makes the model look infinitely better! I gave the Cultists a heavy wash so that they would look dirty as if they had been in the desert for a while.
7. Very carefully paint Emperors Children Pink onto the Brand scar and lightly drybrush Kislev Flesh onto the arms and knuckles.
8. Paint Warplock Bronze onto the pipes, gun metal, mask details, bracelet symbol and the Backpack.
9. Paint the gun with Moot Green, as before using 2 thin layers and being careful not to cover the holes.

Paint the Bayonet, backpack fan and the big eye lense with RuneFang Steel.

Drybrush Runefang Steel onto the chainmail, gun metal and the bracelet symbol.
10. Put a thick blob of Waystone Green onto the main eye lense and spread it over the silver paint.
Put a small dab of Temple Guard Blue onto the other eye lenses
Make a very thin mix of Caliban green and water and wash the green of the gun with it.
11. Paint the Oxygen tank and buttons in Temple Guard Blue and drybrush the pipe in the same colour.
13. Splodge some Agrellan Earth onto the top of the base. Its important not to paint it on otherwise it will not crack when it dries. it is best to dab it on as much as possible and in different thickness's to get different size cracks, try not to rub the brush back and forth otherwise you wont get the air into the paint.
12. Paint a solid block of Doombull Brown all over the base.
14. Give the Agrellan Earth time to dry. it takes hours! I find it best to leave it overnight to dry. You will notice that the thicker areas of paint give the biggest cracks and the Doombull Brown from underneath will show through.
15. repaint the boots Abbaddon black to cover up any Agrellan Earth that may have got on them. and also give the side of the base another coat of Doombull Brown. Neaten up any areas that need doing and the model is finished!
Other Models with alternate colours. I tried three different colours on the same design of model. I did a variety of colours to represent the different weapons brands in Borderlands.
My favourite weapon colour is the blue. To get this I painted the gun with 2 thin layers of Temple Guard Blue and gave it a wash of Drakenhof Nightshade.
For the red gun I tried using an edging technique. I painted the gun with Evil Sunz Scarlett the edge highted with Emperors Children Pink.
